The Think Music project will capture, assess and disseminate a fascinating social and cultural phenomena, which has seen the music and culture which originates in the African and Caribbean diaspora, become an increasingly influential and important tool in enabling effective cross-cultural engagement in Europe.
Relatively little has widely documented on this topic, with this genre of music receiving minimal promotion or coverage by the mainstream media, resulting in misinterpretations of the music and associated culture. Further, there are emerging markets in Eastern Europe complimenting more established markets in Germany, Italy, France and UK.
Focusing on music networks, festivals, artists, fashions and associated products, the objective of the project is to collate the views from practitioners who are passionately involved in the celebration of Afro-Caribbean music culture (in Europe), producing a comprehensive, document which captures the current experiences and motivations of those involved. This project will strengthen the cultural and commercial links between (music) practitioners based Europe and those from the Afro-Carribean diaspora; as well as enable further understanding of the role music plays in cross-cultural engagement.
